Triploid Grass Carp

Grass carp

Triploid Grass Carp, sometimes referred to as White Amur, are used to control vegetation in ponds.  They are sterilized and will not reproduce in a pond.  We source them from a facility that produces certified sterilized fish.  Grass Carp will work for rooted vegetation in ponds.  They are not particularly good at clearing floating types of vegetation.  We recommend Tilapia to help with that problem.  We usually recommend 10 fish per surface acre unless the problem is severe, then more may be needed.  After about 10 years they become less effective and you may need to restock them.  They usually have a good survival rate and are a popular choice for chemical free vegetation control.
